Browsers show "Not secure" when a page loads over plain HTTP instead of HTTPS. It usually means your site doesn't have an SSL certificate installed, or it isn't redirecting visitors to the secure version. Customers notice, and some will leave.
How to fix it
- Install an SSL certificate. Most hosts include a free one. Turn it on in your hosting control panel.
- Redirect HTTP to HTTPS for every page, so old links and bookmarks go to the secure version.
- Update your site's address in WordPress or your builder settings to https.
- Fix mixed content: images or scripts still loading over http can keep the warning on some pages.
- Update Search Console and your Business Profile with the https address.
Still showing after you install it?
- The certificate may not cover the www version, or the reverse
- The certificate may have expired and not renewed
- Browser cache: try a private window
Why it matters for SEO
Google uses HTTPS as a signal, and a warning in the address bar costs you enquiries even if rankings hold.
