How to write an about page that wins customers

For a small business, the about page is often the second most visited page. People want to know who's coming to their house or handling their job. Make it about them, with you as the proof.

What to include

  1. A real photo of you and your team. Not a stock image.
  2. Who you are: your name, your trade, how long you've been doing it.
  3. Why customers choose you: two or three specific reasons.
  4. How you work: how you quote, turn up, communicate and clean up.
  5. Credentials: licences, insurance, association memberships.
  6. Where you work: your service area.
  7. A call to action: phone and quote form.

Keep the history short

A sentence or two on how you started is plenty. "I started Smith Electrical in 2015 after ten years with a large contractor, because I wanted to do jobs properly instead of quickly" says more than a page of history.

Avoid

  • Vague claims like "we're passionate about quality".
  • Long mission statements.
  • Claims you can't back up, like "Perth's best electrician".
