How to write your homepage: a template for tradies

Your homepage has about five seconds to answer three questions: what do you do, where do you do it, and how do I contact you? Answer those at the top, then use the rest of the page to build trust.

The structure, top to bottom

  1. Headline: service + area. "Electrician for Joondalup and the northern suburbs."
  2. One-line promise: the main reason to choose you. "Fixed quotes, on time, and we clean up."
  3. Two buttons: call now and get a quote.
  4. Proof strip: Google rating, number of reviews, licence number, years in business.
  5. Services: a short card for each main service, linking to its own page.
  6. Recent work: three to six real job photos with the suburb.
  7. How it works: three steps from enquiry to finished job.
  8. Reviews: a few real ones, with names.
  9. Service area: the suburbs you cover, linking to suburb pages.
  10. Final call to action: phone and form again.

Writing tips

  • Write how you talk to customers on the phone.
  • Use "you" more than "we".
  • Be specific: "We're usually there within two hours" beats "fast service".
  • Cut words like "solutions", "passionate" and "one-stop shop".

Before and after

Before: "Welcome to Smith Electrical, your one-stop shop for all your electrical needs."

After: "Licensed electrician in Joondalup. Switchboards, lighting and fault finding, with fixed quotes before we start."
