A red "Dangerous site" or "Deceptive site ahead" warning usually means Google has detected malware, phishing pages or hacked content on your site. It stops almost every visitor, so treat it as urgent.
Step 1: confirm the problem
- Open Google Search Console and check the Security issues report. It lists what Google found and example URLs.
- Check Google's Safe Browsing site status for your domain.
Step 2: clean the site
- Change every password: hosting, website admin, FTP and database.
- Update WordPress, themes and plugins, and remove any you don't use.
- Remove the malicious files or pages, or restore a clean backup from before the hack.
- Ask your host for help. Many will scan and clean the account.
Step 3: request a review
When the site is clean, request a review in Search Console's Security issues report. Explain what you fixed. Warnings are usually removed after Google confirms the fix.
Stop it happening again
Keep software updated, use strong unique passwords with two-factor login, and keep automatic backups. See WordPress security basics.
