Your past customers already trust you. A short, useful reminder at the right time often brings work more cheaply than any ad. Most tradies never send one.
Reminders that make sense
- Servicing: air conditioning, hot water systems, gas appliances.
- Safety checks: smoke alarms, safety switches.
- Seasonal jobs: gutter cleaning before winter, reticulation checks before summer.
- Follow-ups: "It's been a year since we installed your system. Any issues?"
Example SMS
"Hi Sarah, it's Dave from Smith Air. It's been 12 months since we installed your split system, so it's due for a service before summer. Reply YES and I'll send a few times. Reply STOP to opt out."
Keep it legal and polite
- Only message customers who've given you their details for this kind of contact.
- Identify your business in every message.
- Include a simple way to opt out, and honour it. Australia's Spam Act applies to commercial SMS and email.
Make it a system
Most job management apps can store service dates and send reminders automatically. Set it up once and it keeps bringing work.
