Can you use AI to write your website content?

Google's position is that it rewards helpful, original content however it's produced, and penalises content made mainly to manipulate rankings. AI tools can help you write faster, but they can't supply the local knowledge, photos and real experience that make a small business page worth ranking.

Where AI helps

  • Turning your rough notes into a clear first draft.
  • Suggesting questions customers might ask.
  • Tidying grammar and making text easier to read.
  • Drafting page titles and meta descriptions.

Where it goes wrong

  • Made-up facts: AI can state wrong prices, rules or licence requirements confidently.
  • Generic text: pages that could belong to any business anywhere.
  • Mass-produced pages: hundreds of near-identical suburb pages can count as scaled content abuse under Google's spam policies.

A safe process

  1. Start with your own knowledge: jobs, prices, suburbs, customer questions.
  2. Use AI to draft, then edit it in your own words.
  3. Check every fact, price and rule.
  4. Add real photos, examples and local details.
  5. Read it out loud. If it doesn't sound like you, rewrite it.
