If your website doesn't appear on Google at all, even when you search your business name, it's usually not indexed yet or something is blocking it. If it appears for your name but not for your services, it's a ranking problem instead.
Step 1: check if it's indexed
Search site:yourdomain.com.au on Google. No results means Google hasn't indexed it. See how to get indexed.
Common causes by platform
- WordPress: "Discourage search engines from indexing this site" ticked under Settings, then Reading. It's often left on after a build.
- Wix: the site isn't published, or SEO settings have indexing turned off for the site or certain pages.
- Squarespace: the site is still private, password-protected or in trial, or pages are hidden from search.
- Shopify: the store is password-protected, which is common before launch.
- Any platform: the site is brand new and Google hasn't found it yet.
Step 2: set up Search Console
It tells you exactly which pages are indexed and why others aren't. See the Search Console guide.
If it shows for your name but not your services
That's normal for new sites. You need service pages, a Business Profile and some time. See SEO for a new website and why competitors rank higher.
