Google Business Profile not showing up? 9 fixes

If your business isn't showing on Google, the cause is usually one of nine things: the profile isn't verified yet, it's suspended, it's too new, there's a duplicate, your categories are wrong, or you're searching in a way that hides it. Work through the list in order.

First, check how you're searching

Search your exact business name on Google Maps on your phone. If it appears, the profile is live and the problem is ranking, not visibility. If it doesn't appear even by name, keep going.

The 9 common causes

  1. Not verified. If your profile says "only visible to you", Google hasn't finished verification. See how to verify a Google Business Profile.
  2. Verified recently. New profiles and edits can take several days to appear publicly. Avoid making more changes while you wait, as each one can trigger another review.
  3. Suspended or disabled. Google shows a notice in your profile manager. See how to fix a suspended profile.
  4. Edits pending review. "Your edit was not approved" or edits stuck in review usually mean the change looked risky, such as a name change that adds keywords.
  5. Duplicate profiles. Two profiles for the same business can cancel each other out. Search Maps for your phone number and address, and ask Google to remove or merge the extra one.
  6. Wrong or vague primary category. If your primary category is "Contractor" but people search "plumber", you'll struggle to appear. Pick the most specific category that matches your main service.
  7. Service area set too wide or too narrow. List the suburbs you actually work in. A service area doesn't let you rank everywhere you list; distance still matters.
  8. Too far from the searcher. Google weighs distance heavily. A business in Joondalup rarely shows for "electrician Rockingham", however good the profile.
  9. Weak profile compared to competitors. Fewer reviews, no photos and missing services all push you below businesses that are better set up. See how to rank higher on Google Maps.
