Duplicate profiles happen when a business is listed twice, often after a move, a name change, or someone creating a new profile instead of claiming the old one. Duplicates split your reviews and can confuse Google about which listing is real.
How to find duplicates
- Search Google Maps for your business name.
- Search for your phone number.
- Search for your current and previous addresses.
- Check the profiles you can see in your Business Profile account.
How to fix them
- If you manage both: keep the one with more reviews and history, and mark the other as a duplicate or remove it from your account.
- If you don't control the duplicate: on Google Maps, suggest an edit and choose the option to close or remove it as a duplicate.
- If you can't resolve it: contact Google Business Profile support from your profile manager.
What about the reviews?
Reviews on a duplicate aren't always moved to the profile you keep. If the duplicate has more reviews, consider keeping that one and updating its details instead.
Prevent it
- When you move, update your existing profile rather than creating a new one.
- If a past employee or agency created a profile, get ownership back. See transferring ownership.
