The cheapest quote and the nicest portfolio aren't the best guides. Choose a web designer who will build a site that brings enquiries, give you full ownership, and still answer the phone after launch.
Questions to ask every designer
- Can I see sites you've built that rank on Google for their main service?
- Is the price fixed, and what exactly is included?
- Who writes the content?
- Will the domain be registered in my name, and do I get full admin access?
- Is basic SEO included: page titles, Search Console, sitemap, speed?
- How many rounds of changes do I get?
- What happens if I want to move the site to another provider?
- What does it cost to make changes after launch?
Red flags
- They register the domain in their own name.
- They use a closed platform you can't move away from.
- They promise "page one on Google" as part of a website build.
- There's no written scope.
- They can't explain what happens after launch.
Compare like for like
One quote for $1,500 and another for $6,000 are often for completely different things. Compare the number of pages, who writes the copy, whether SEO setup is included and what support you get afterwards.
