A small business website redesign in Australia usually costs about the same as a new build: $2,000 to $8,000 for most service businesses. The bigger risk isn't the price; it's losing the Google rankings your old site had.
Redesign or fix?
Fix the existing site if it's fast, works on mobile and only needs better content. Redesign if it's slow, hard to edit, looks dated next to competitors, or can't support the service and suburb pages you need to rank.
A redesign process that protects rankings
- Record what you have. List every page and which ones get visits from Google in Search Console.
- Keep or redirect every URL. Any page that changes address needs a 301 redirect to its new address.
- Keep the content that ranks. Improve it rather than deleting it.
- Test on a staging site before launch, on real phones.
- Launch and resubmit the sitemap in Search Console.
- Watch for 404 errors in the following weeks and fix them.
What drives the cost
- Number of pages, and whether content is rewritten.
- Moving platforms, for example from Wix to WordPress.
- Features such as booking, payments or integrations.
